Resolution No. 2018-02 A Resolution Authorizing A Trails And Open Space Advisory Committee For The Town Of Silver City was passed Tuesday evening by the ToSC and applications are now being excepted. According to Town Clerk Ann Mackie: "Applications are available at City Hall, 101 W. Broadway and on the website. Please contact the Town Clerk at 534-6346 if you have questions or would like an application mailed or emailed. Completed applications may be dropped off at City Hall, 101 W. Broadway, faxed to 534-6377 or mailed to Town Clerk, Town of Silver City, P. O. Box 1188, Silver City, NM 88062. Applications will be accepted until filled by appointment of the Mayor".

From the Resolution quote below we can see the makeup, duties and responsibilities of the Committee and who they report to;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Silver City that:
1. A Trails and Open Space Advisory Committee be formed consisting of seven (7) people acting in a voluntary capacity. At least five (5) of the volunteers shall be Silver City residents or owners of businesses located in Silver City. Initial appointments will be for three one-year terms, and four two-year terms. Thereafter, all appointments shall be two-year terms. Appointees are eligible for reappointment. The appointee to fill a vacancy in any term will be for the unexpired portion thereof.

2. The Committee members will be appointed by the Mayor, with consensus of the Council. A Committee chairperson will be chosen by the Committee members at their initial meeting. The chairperson will also serve as a liaison between the Town Staff and the public.

3. The Committee will advise the Mayor and Town Council on all aspects of trails and open space management, including but not limited to:
A. evaluating and enhancing existing trails and open space;
B. developing and implementing educational programs;
C. serving as a source for ideas, new concepts, suggestions and innovations in trail maintenance.

This Advisory Committee is separate from the "Trails Worker" Dustin Gnader who was just hired and who answers directly to Community Development Director Jaime Embick. Dustin's primary office is out working on the trails but has a secondary office, once occupied by the building inspector in the Community Development Department.

Also available are positions on the Incentive Review Committee, Recycling Advisory Committee and the Museum Board; apply as above.
