Gila Regional Medical Center (GRMC), one of the three 4-Star Quality Hospitals in New Mexico, is located in the small rural town of Silver City. This County-owned; not-for-profit; 68-bed acute care hospital with a 600 plus employee staff is launching a nationwide search for their next Chief Executive Officer (CEO). They are looking for a uniquely qualified candidate to assume this critical permanent role currently held by the Interim CEO, Alfredo Ontiveros, FACHE.

Approach by the GRMC Board of Trustees is Forming a 14 member Selection Committee to be announced February 20, 2017.
The formal search for a new talented leader in healthcare in underway and will create an opportunity to fulfill the future vision of the Board of Trustees (BOT). It is the mission of the BOT to govern the leadership, support the providers and caregivers that serve the needs of patients.

“The GRMC Board of Trustees has the ‘Passion’ to create the ‘Best Rural Hospital’ in our region. We are seeking a CEO that can share our vision in this challenging healthcare environment. Quality of service to our patients will be our highest priority at all times, which reflects the cost of providing services to our region. It takes a dedicated ‘Team’ of caregivers to achieve such a challenging goal” said, Jeremiah Garcia, Chair of the GRMC Board of Trustees. “As we all know, the swing in healthcare continues to change daily and we need a CEO with the vision to guide us into the future and to achieve the ‘Passion’ we desire.”

The Selection Committee comprised of Physicians, Caregivers, the Community and Government entities will assist the BOT in evaluating the candidate pool and submit finalists for the final decision. This process will also include utilizing outside guidance from Mr. Michael Soler, Search Consultant for Executive Workforce Consultants (EWC) Healthcare. He and Barbara Barela, Director of the Human Resources Department at GRMC, will train all those involved in the search and selection process.

The CEO serves as the Chief Administrator for GRMC and is responsible for the management of the organization as well the financial performance, technological capabilities, patient outcomes and the metrics of community benefits from GRMC. They report their plans, efforts and results to the BOT at the end of each month.

The Highest Quality Healthcare Standards in Caregiving and Reliance on New Technologies
GRMC continues to strive for the highest level of safety standards, maintain and improve the quality of care as an acute care hospital and further drive the implementation of MEDITECH technology investments. It will be the role of the new CEO to continue to provide positive leadership for the caregivers and to ensure that quality care with a patient-centered approach is met. To achieve these standards, GRMC will conduct a comprehensive and inclusive search for leadership talent. This effort, driven by the BOT and the Selection Committee, is dedicated to finding the next CEO who integrates healthcare quality service, patient satisfaction and is responsible and fiscally accountable to the BOT and the County Commissioners. The ideal candidate will apply strong administrative and operational principles in filing the leadership role. They will have proven experience in healthcare.
