The Food Project, based in Boston, MA, is an amazing and inspiring organization that has been a pioneer of youth development through sustainable agriculture for 20 years. With funding from the Freeport/McMoran Community Enhancement fund, The Guadalupe Montessori School is pleased to announce that we are bringing trainers from The Food Project (http://www.thefoodproject.org) to do two days of workshops and events for the community. All events are free and open to the public. Lunch will be available at both workshops at a small cost. Childcare will also be available at both workshops!

Here are the event descriptions:

Full Day Workshops:

“Innovative Ways to Create a Sustainable Local Food System”

Friday, February 24th, 9AM-3PM
Grant County Business and Conference Center
3031 HWY 180 in Silver City, NM

We will look at ways to engage rural and urban populations in food system mapping and developing creative responses to increasing local food production and consumption. In the workshop youth and adults from The Food Project will use examples from current projects underway in Boston to help workshop participants imagine and strategize about similar issues and opportunities. We will discuss ways to engage neighborhood residents, volunteers, schools, community based organizations, businesses and local government agencies as part of the “food justice solution”.

“Dynamic Youth Programming”
Saturday, February 25th, 10AM-4PM
Grant County Business and Conference Center
3031 HWY 180 in Silver City, NM
This workshop will address how participants can motivate, train and empower youth to be effective agents of change in their communities. The workshop will offer both theoretical and practical tools that demonstrate best practices in the youth development field and training protocols and practices used at The Food Project that have proven effective over time. Participants will be able to bring these tools back to their organizations and improve the quality and depth of their work with youth.
