Goal number 3 for President Shepard's bonus this fiscal year:

3. From FY 2018 non-state revenuers, increase Foundation's assets by $400,000 with a weighted value of at least $8,000.

The Foundation has set up the President's Society Fund with the following statement:

Donors who contribute to the Western New Mexico University Foundation’s new President’s Society fund before the end of this fiscal year will get lifetime recognition as supporters and also help WNMU meet the needs of its students and faculty even in bleak economic times.

The statement should have added it also meets the requirement for President Shepherd to receive $8,000 or more of bonus.

Donors should find out what the funds in the President's Society Fund will fund, another President's Discretionary Fund?

Is it just me or are things at Western becoming too obvious?

This is part of the post on the WNMU web site from the Foundation:

Due to the increasing cost of education, the decreasing amount of state funding available and the predicted drops in enrollment, privately donated funds from the Western New Mexico University Foundation are critical to student support. The Foundation aims to raise at least $400,000 by June 30, 2018, for WNMU’s 125th anniversary.

Do you think it's just an accident that the $400,000 amount is exactly the same as the amount President Shepard pledged to raise for his $8,000 bonus? And the ending date is exactly the same. Even if he doesn't raise $400,000 he still gets a proportion based on the amount raised. That means his bonus will be 2% of the amount raised.

So if you want to donate to the university, but you want the most education bang for your donated buck, wait until after the June 30 deadline. Otherwise 2 percent of your donation will go to Dr. Shepard. Is that correct? If so, this is not a good fundraising strategy.
