I went to the lecture at the Silco on Fri. evening. Given by Co-founder Tomas Spath. Mr. Spath is a preacher by "trade" and a very good speaker. This is a grassroots organization which started in 1998 and is just really gaining ground, because of the uncivility prevalent in this country. Check out their website.
www.instituteforcivility.org
They tour the country giving workshops to students, legislatures, anyone who is interested in civil discourse and train people, how to be respectful, listen, and how not to be judgemental of others who's opinions don't match ours.
One interesting item, when asked if he could estimate the numbers of those legislative people who are not open to being civil, in his estimation, about 10% are "dug in", if you will. So the power of the media is leading many people to believe that most in Congress can't or won't compromise, which is not true.
It is the people of this country who must demand the truth, demand civility, demand compromise of our leaders.
