Senator Diane Feinstein, D-CA, introduced S. 3036, the Keep Families Together Act, on June 7, 2018. As a former child welfare lawyer, I can cut through the gobbledy-gook for you and tell you that basically it says that other than pursuant to state and federal child welfare law and procedure, the federal government may not separate families within 100 miles of the border.

The text of the Act is here:
https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-con ... /3036/text

Currently there are 39 co-sponsors in addition to Sen. Feinstein, 37 Democrats, 2 Independents, 0 Republicans. The list of co-sponsors, which will be updated as things change, is here:
https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-con ... cosponsors

The bill has been referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee. It is important to contact each of the Republicans on the committee and urge to quickly move the bill to the Senate floor – especially if any of these senators is from your state. But contact them even if not. Trump and Sessions are already preparing concentration camp tent cities for children in Texas. If even one Republican flips, the bill will pass through the Judiciary Committee.

The Chair of the Judiciary Committee is Senator Charles Grassley. His web page for email is as follows:
https://www.grassley.senate.gov/constit ... d-comments

The message I am sending to Sen. Charles Grassley, the Chair of theJudiciary Committee, is as follows:
Please bring S. 3036, the Keep Families Together Act, to a Judiciary Committee vote. Please vote to pass this urgent legislation. The policy the legislation seeks to stop is monstrous and should have no part in any nation which claims a commitment to human rights. Thank you.

The message I am sending to the Republican members of the Committee is as follows:
Please urge Chairman Grassley to bring S. 3036, the Keep Families Together Act, to a Judiciary Committee vote. Please vote to pass this urgent legislation. The policy the legislation seeks to stop is monstrous and should have no part in any nation which claims a commitment to human rights. Thank you.

Whether to Chairman Grassley or to committee members, copy and paste my language, or better yet, use your own. Repbublican committee members and their web pages for email are as follows:

Senator Orrin G. Hatch, R-UT:

Once again. the path to a moral reaction goes through Mr. Wagman. We must act on this as soon as humanly possible because, as we discuss this here in the Forum, hundreds of newly arrested children are being 'incarcerated' in a tent city near El Paso, where today, temperatures hit the 90's.

In my opinion, this is why this Forum exists; a national crisis, an injustice beyond all moral comprehension, a political catastrophe that threatens our country..a once in a lifetime moment when our democracy is balanced on a precarious ledge over an abyss of facism.

We have this forum. and it is a way to reveal the most important crises facing us. We can talk with one another, we can share feelings and fears, and we can mobilize against the forces closing in on us. Let's take advantage of this moment and get back on fire. There are children out there that need our help; there are people working the front lines of lawful change and we need to get their back!

Find that spark, people! We are who they are scarred of. Let's piss somebody off who wants to hold our minds hostage. You have the guts and the heart to get things done.

Write the list of Senators Alan provided and strike a first blowfor those childrens's freedom. They need to sleep in their mother's arms tonight. We can help put them there..

It feels to me that we are at a turning point. If we don't stop and reverse this now, this country will have become something unrecognizable.

The Border Network for Human Rights is planning a march and protest in El Paso on Tuesday, June 19. If you can make it . . .
