For the first time in my 36 years in Grant County I hold some modicum hope that the 3 newly elected avowed progressives can bring a needed maturity to the governance of the county. The 3 candidates Alicia Edwards, Marilyn Alcorn and Harry Browne trounced their opponents to win the newly apportioned districts 3,4 and 5 respectively to bring a progressive majority to the new 5 person commission.

For most of the years I've been here the commission debated and always defeated a 5 member commission fearing a takeover by real and modern democrats. It will be interesting to see what the new commission will handle the issues such as the Mexican Wolf, the USFS Travel Management Plan, keeping the mines honest and the Gila diversion boondoggle and Eco-Tourism etc.

It was interesting that Clinton, an old world democrat won by 5 votes over Sanders but that fight isn't over and promises to get more interestin especially as 3rd party candidates become more visible.

I, too, congratulate Harry, Alicia, and Marilyn, and rejoice for Grant County. But they're not commissioners yet! They have each secured the democratic nomination for their respective districts, but must win the general election in November against their Republican opponents. I for one intend to work and contribute as much as possible toward that end!

Azima's right... it's not over 'til it's over.

It took a legion of Volunteers pounding pavement, knocking on doors and talking with individual voters to achieve those results. No rational reason to take the foot off the gas pedal. Our candidates are up against a former Commissioner, a rancher with School Board experience and spouse of Chair of the Grant County Republican Party.

If you are inclined to volunteer some time to help with this one-on-one effort please contact John at jfc6@cornell.edu.

Thank you!
