Not a minute after they affirmed to me that they were being well received on the streets a woman walks by, stops, turns around and in a clear voice thanks them for being out on the streets rather in a car, gives them a thumbs up, complements them on the new uniforms and continues on her way. I could tell that they felt good about building a better community and breaking through the wall of separation between cops and community.

Though I'm not sure how this could be applied for change in other parts of Silver City, at the County and State level nor if there is even a will as they still drive around with extra dark tinted windows that shout "you can't see me watching you".

What made this even more poignant is that one of these cops has recently returned from a 6 week paternity leave to aid and welcome a new member into his family. He told me a couple of weeks back: "It's going to take a while to get back into shape."

Well done to the city, police department, and to the officers. A positive move indeed.

I saw these officers out on Saturday and they did look good out on their bikes in downtown area in these nice uniforms. Good job guys! I agree that the dark windows need to be done away with for all law enforcement agencies, at least the front ones. Special units or others, I say keep them dark!
