I need to invoke the ant gods! This winter it never got cold enough for the ants to go into dormancy and I am plagued with all different kinds of ants coming into the house! I really don't want to use big guns on them, but diatomaceous earth is not doing the trick. Because of my pets,I have to be careful. Any suggestions???

Use Boric Acid and the diatomaceous earth because different ants will go for different things. Boric acid is really cheap at the dollar store. These 2 products take time to work because, not being contact poisons, they are generally taken home before eating and sharing.

When I set a mouse trap I mix some boric Acid into some cheap peanut butter or some other strong nut butter if you're allergic, add some oil if the mixture too thick. The cockroaches, if any, will get the bate they will die and other roaches will eat them and die. Often the cockroach will not die until it's back at the nest where many more will feed on it's corps

Ants? I use cinnamon. Cinnamon has never failed to deter my ants. I am not sure it kills them but they leave my house and that's what I want. The Food Basket has large inexpensive containers.

Yes, Nancy, cinnamon really works! Have read that it is caustic and that's why ants avoid it. Works best if you use it along the floors/counters where the ants are coming in. Mostly they will not cross.

I am headed to the store for some cinnamon! Have boric acid. Thanks for the tips. Ants are the most common/abundant species of life on earth, I hear tell...so, since they are not an endangered species, I am going to launch an all-out assault against their territorial invasion of my home,lol..pesky little buggers! Me thinks bugs are going to be bad this year.

Another common and edible solution I have successfully used is powdered cayenne. But first I try to smash all the ants that have made it inside so they are unable to go back home with news of a food source. If I sprinkle the cayenne along the wall and every point of entry it seems to keep them out for weeks. Another thing I have tried is borax mixed 50/50 with powdered sugar. I think this also inhibits roaches and rodents, as well. But borax is poisonous to people and pets, so you should keep it inaccessible to them. How poisonous it is I can't tell you, but of course you can find infinite opinions on the internet. You may want to look into it.
