There are a few items of interest for another meeting of the Gila Local Investment Forum.

1) This is copied from the Sustainability topic:
I'd like to speak with someone about an opportunity to lend to a nonprofit at a rate of interest quite advantageous to the lender.
You can email me at azima@zianet.com. Look forward to hearing from you, whoever you are!

2) Also, Gila Wood Products LLC is wrapping up a comprehensive business plan, which will be presented to folks who are interested in becoming members of the LLC. GWP has taken over the business activities of Gila WoodNet (a nonprofit) and is expanding its forest thinning and wood products operations into cellulose insulation manufacturing, energy retrofitting of buildings, and erosion control. Investment capital is needed for land and equipment purchases - investors will become part owners in the business.

3) Another developing concept is to establish a funding pool for financing energy retrofits and alternative energy projects.

4) If anyone else has a local investment opportunity, please reply with a brief description in this thread.

I spoke with Bruce Ashburn at the Small Business Development Center and we may be able to meet in the SBDC conference room in the future. I am also interested in having people from the conventional lending institutions attend. I propose meeting March 12 or after (I am booked up until then).

Here is an interesting new corporate structure called a Benefit Corporation. It allows a corporation to focus on more than just making a buck for the shareholders.
