The Gila National Forest, Quemado Ranger District has implemented closures effective September 30 at 12:00 noon for the Juniper Campground and the Pinon Campground. This closure is the standard seasonal closure when water is turned off and campground hosts are released.

The El Caso Campgrounds are still available to forest visitors through November 30.

Safety tips for traveling in the Gila National Forest so that you “Know before You Go”:

· Check with NM Roads for up-to-date road conditions. http://nmroads.com/mapIndex_2017041401.html?

· Check in with the USGS National Water Information System which will indicate water flows for the Gila River and Mimbres River Basin. https://waterdata.usgs.gov/NM/nwis/curr ... station_nm

· Remember that the Gila NF covers over 3 million acres and many small communities. Look at the predicted weather for the specific area where you plan to visit. http://www.weather.gov/

· DO NOT cross flooded roadways or flooded washes.

Reminder: There are many alternatives available for dispersed camping on the Gila NF and if you would like a more developed camping experience, there are other campgrounds such as Upper End and Mesa Campgrounds at Lake Roberts. Be safe and have fun!!!
