The Gila National Forest has released for public review and feedback the draft assessment report as part of the Forest Plan Revision process. This draft assessment report identifies ecological, social and economic conditions, trends, and any risks to sustainability of the Gila National Forest resources. The Forest thanks everyone that shared input and other information sources for the assessment. The trends and conditions identified in the assessment will help determine the current plan’s need for change and aid in the development of plan components. The revised Forest Plan will describe the strategic direction for management of forest resources for the next fifteen years on the Gila National Forest.

The Gila National Forest highly encourages feedback on the draft assessment report and participation moving forward. The draft assessment report is available at http://go.usa.gov/xKenb. CDs containing the report are available upon request. Please send any feedback or suggestions on the draft assessment report preferably in digital form to gilaplan@fs.fed.us, or mail to Gila National Forest, Attn.: Matt Schultz, 3005 E. Camino del Bosque, Silver City, NM 88061, or drop it off at one of the District Offices. This feedback is most useful if submitted before November 15, 2016. Your input will help the Gila NF to develop forest plan direction that will provide for a healthy, diverse, and productive Forest.

Public participation opportunities will be scheduled soon to discuss the assessment findings. For further information, visit the Forest Plan Revision website at http://go.usa.gov/h88k, or contact Matt Schultz, Forest Planner, 575-388-8280 or matthewschultz@fs.fed.us.
