Ron Hall, man of the hour, speaking to about 50 people for the ground breaking at the site of Tu Casa, the future Rehab Center. Having been a cop, then a judge Ron knew the limitations of the so called "Rehab Centers" throughout the years so 5 years ago he ran for County Commissioner to spearhead the creation of a real Rehab Center; today he acknowledged the dozens of supporters, the behind the scene non-profits and politicians who raised funds and lobbied for critical decisions that made the $2 Million project a reality.

So whats the big deal? We have and have had rehab centers for years:
When he was Magistrate Judge Ron Hall the frustration really built, he would see these offenders, many chronic offenders, whose problems with addition, from alcohol to heroin and medical opioids where the root of their problems and he would, as part of their sentence, order them into Rehab, ok fine but; when, after a long waiting period they finally show for admittance the Rehab Centers would test them for drugs and if any were found, even pot, they were rejected thereby unable not only to receive help but unable to comply with the judges order.

Tu Casa's Promise:
Tu Casa promises a full spectrum Rehab encompassing In-house medically supervised withdrawal followed by in-house intensive counseling followed by longterm outpatient counseling.

As we were waiting for the proceedings to begin I spoke with the Grant County Jail administrator Mike Carrillo who estimated that, on many days, 85% of inmates were addicted to something, most often alcohol.

Although today was the official "Ground Breaking" work on the site has been ongoing for the last month with the center expected to open sometime in early 2018.

And then there was the publicity photo op with celebs both involved and some not, threw dirt in the air at the instruction Chamber of Commerce CEO and MC Scott Terry causing most of us to shield our eyes and turn away from yet another on-slot of dust.

It should be mentioned that this project is a partnership between Grant County and the Town of Silver City and that Ron Hall emphasized that when the process was bogged down from lack of funding the Town came through with the needed dollars.

The location is off 32nd street bypass behind the NM Environment Dept and CYFD offices as seen in the background of the above photos.
