Tuesday's Silver City Town Council meeting was pretty much dominated by public input concerning trails and open spaces with a room full of supporters. Each lauded the creation of the Greenways Plan that outlined a trail system spanning the Town but each pointed out shortcomings and various failures in follow through. From trash, incomplete trails, lack of restoration under the Highway 90 Bridge and Boston Hill trail issues that different speakers addressed; the common theme was that the town lacked a "Trails and Open Spaces" coordinator. Each of the speakers recommended a part time coordinator be hired for the "Office of Sustainability" which is within the "Community Development Department".

While a "Trails and Open Spaces Coordinator" is an excellent idea the Town is so strapped for cash that current services and staff can barily be maintained and also according to CFO Alex Brown if the legislature completely cancels the "hold harmless" payments we're in big trouble.

The issue of removing the traffic light at Bullard and Broadway and replacing with stop signs was also brought up and according to TM Alex Brown the study and engineering plan still languishes in the office of Engineers Inc.

The other significant presentation was fromToSC PD Chief Reynolds with the yearly 2016 crime stats which will be covered in a later more in-depth analysis.
