Tuesday evening the Silver City Town Council paved the way for a 69 unit affordable housing for seniors only. The Council unanimously approved the gifting of 2 parcels of land where the old Hillcrest Hospital once stood above the corner of Juniper and Silver Heights/180 East. If all goes construction could begin by late in the first quarter of 2018. If Bethel Development, Inc fails to win a highly competitive grant from the NM Finance Authority than the property will revert back to Town ownership.

According to Bethel representative Mark Shoemaker we have potentially a good chance because the land is free and committed and it is a Brownfield heading toward redevelopment.

Bethel is not new to the area as the developed, own and operate the Silver Cliffs Low Income Apartments on Little Walnut above Pizza Hut. Bethel is also working on a $10 million upgrade of all the kitchen, laundry and bathroom appliances and fixtures and some fixes to the structures.

The rendering above may not, in the end, look exactly like this as this is still in the early conceptual stage.

Sewers
The Council approved a bid for installation of sewer lines on the first 5 streets leading east off of Ride Rd. Many of the property have signed on to hook up to the new sewer. Councilwoman Aiman-Smith pointed out that those old septic systems are sitting in the water shed of and close to San Vicente Creek and Manager Alex Brown added that all septics will be shut down as hook-ups are completed.
