The first thing I see as I enter the newly reestablished San Vicente Trail is this beautiful pond. Last week the crew from Stream Dynamics and the Wellness Coalition YCC first installed 40 Coyote Willow cuttings then set huge boulders embedded into the bottom of the pool to reinforce both the stream bank and the willows. They brought native grasses from down creek and planted them above the stones

Image
Saturday the trailhead kiosk was reinstalled. The trail starts to the right of the kiosk. Note the pool to the left and to the right 2 orange specs are guys working on the trail.

Image
Another view shows the trail from the kiosk in the upper right as it heads under the bridge and a spur that heads down to the pool in the lower right shadows.

Three from the Wellness Coalition YCC plant grasses and more Coyote Willow, they are squatting down but we can get an idea of the size of the smaller boulders at the top of the barrier.

this photo was taken shortly after the culvert was removed as Stream Dynamics Van Clothier and Theo discuss the situation and how to proceed.

The Bridge Contractor, IHC is in the process of packing up and tomorrow, Wednesday the gate and "Road Closed" sign should be removed from Mill Rd.

Note: before the creek enters a rapids then the new pond it creates a wetland full of yellow Monkey Flower and Watercress, its a bumper crop this year and well worth checking out.

Will the pond and wetlands being on the "east" side of the bridge's underside? Or, along the older, more traditional west side of the bridge.
Will the city help to thin out the foliage along the road down to the bridge?
Thinning that foliage will give folks a better sense of security, I think.
How much will be competed by the launch of the traditional rainy season?
What are the anticipated effects for water restoration by these efforts?
When is expected completion date?
Thank you

The trailhead, kiosk and pond are on the west side of the bridge and still accessed from Mill Rd at the south end of Bullard or from existing trails along the creek. Because the bridge is higher, longer and wider the area devoted to the trailhead and creek is much larger and more open with a larger, more defined parking area. As of now the area looks like a moonscape with a lot of twisted rebar but this is being cleaned up by the landscape crew. Until the DOT and IHC clear out the area is still closed and hardhats, vests and safety gear are required during work hours.

The approach to the bridge on the northeast side of the bridge along Hudson/Highway 90 is probably the responsibility of the DOT. As I recall the sidewalk on the east side of the bridge was not in the original plans but included by popular demand and did not include a sidewalk extension to the north or south of that isolated stretch across the bridge. I don't know if the Town can or will clear the dirt paths leading to and from the bridge on that east side. For now those who wish to walk the east sidewalk across the bridge run across the Highway or walk on the narrow pavement at the side of the Highway.
