Friday evening the last piece of culvert was removed from San Vicente Creek under the new 90 Bridge and she breathed a sigh of relief and Theo screamed "Freeeeeedom". Earlier in the day he and Van Clothier, both of Stream Dynamics had planted about 35 Coyote Willows deep in the right bank as seen from this downstream position. In the lower right can be seen another, yet to planted, pile of Coyote Willows, a Black Willow and 8 Cottonwood starts. The Cottonwoods will not be planted directly under the bridge but upstream and downstream from the bridge.

On the left bank can be seen the pile of quite damaged culvert that were removed and Saturday an IHC worker used the excavator to flatten and fold them them in preparation for recycling.

Much work is still to be done on the left bank so the creek may be more meandering. The old trailhead sign has been hauled out of storage and stands nearby ready to be reinstalled.

Exciting! Me and my dog have been raring to go for a walk there, especially as the weather warms. It will take a bit of time but but but,....The rock hard drainage area at the end of North Grant Street is now a lush oasis. There are several native grasses, clover, small native shrubs, rosemary and iris...and lots of lovely volunteers. Thursday night all the dogs in the hood were barking like crazy. The next morning picking up bits of trash I noticed deer droppings on the site an explanation for their behavior. Wounds can heal. Stream Dynamics/Asher and his gang/Katy/Tyler...all jumped in to make this greening a success. Perhaps some small organizations could seed the banks and surrounding area?. San Vicente creek lives!

Once again, we are indebted to Crow for his ongoing chronicle of the twists and turns of San Vicente Creek history. It's right that we attend to her, our oldest feature and -- with a little help from Stream Dynamics, the Town, and volunteers -- soon to be the scene of our of nicest natural walks. Shelby
