"It was conclusively arson" said SCFD Chief/Fire Marshall Lambert of the fire that destroyed the Silver City PD Vehicle Impound Lot in the early morning of July 9, 2017. Though the cops were dispatched at 4:38 am to the lot at 1510 W Market who called for the Fire Department at 4:42 am it has been determined that the fire was started around 3:30 am because of the extensive damage and other yet to be disclosed reasons. Because of the sensitive nature of the crime many questions will not be answered until the investigation progresses and suspects are in custody said SCPD Chief Reynolds.

Since there was only 1 vehicle, a 2007 Jeep SUV in impoundment, in bay #3 and the fire was started at bay #3 was this a deliberate destruction of evidence in an ongoing criminal case? The police report sites 3 cuts in the fencing surrounding the compound that also is the location of the Friends of The Library building and a Town warehouse, both untouched, why was Central Dispatch not notified by the security company paid to monitor the compound? A neighbor happened to notice the smoke and reported it.

Though rumors swirl I'll be watching for definitive answers from the SCPD in its ongoing investigation.

Bay #3 was the most extensively damaged with its roof caved in and the building cut in half. Pictured also is Bay #1 with its door laying on the ground. Bay #5 and 6 show extensive fire/smoke damage along the roof line as does the full length of the building on both sides.
