Grant County Sheriff’s Department identifies Western Drive Shooting suspect…Issues Warrant for Arrest of David Beckner.

On Sunday January 29th, 2017 just before 9:30 A.M., Grant County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to #45 Western Drive in reference to a male subject shooting at a blue mobile home. This caller requested to remain anonymous and hung up the phone when dispatchers requested more information.

Deputies arrived on scene and were unable to locate a victim nor the reporting party. While Deputies were investigating this incident, they received information from Central Dispatch that there was a male at Gila Regional Medical Center requesting to be treated for a gunshot wound. Silver City Police Officers, Grant County Deputies and investigators responded to the hospital. The victim in this case was identified as Rodney Chavez (23 YOA/Silver City). Chavez was shot on his left leg. Investigators believe the weapon used in this case was a shotgun. Detectives processed the scene, interviewed witnesses and the victim.

David Beckner (40 YOA/Hanover NM) was identified as the individual responsible for the shooting. A warrant for Beckner’s arrest was issued today for Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon. This is a 3rd Degree Felony warrant with a $50,000 cash bond out of Magistrate Judge Laney’s Court.

Beckner also has three other Warrants which are listed below:
• Probation Violation with no bond
• Warrant out of Pima County Arizona for Failure to Appear, original charge was Larceny, $10,000 bond
• Warrant Out of Hidalgo County for Aggravated Fleeing $10,000 Cash bond

Anyone having information on this case or Beckner’s whereabouts is urged to call Central Dispatch at 575-388-8840 or the Grant County Sheriff’s Department at 575-574-0100.
