During the the first 3 weeks of 2017 the Silver City Museum will be closed with the hope of reopening on January 22nd. The front 6 first floor rooms have hardwood floors that will be stripped, oiled and varnished which means everything on the floor will be removed to the back storage and display rooms. But there is more, most rooms will not be used for the same purpose.

Since the photo above is the inner-most room to get work I'll start there and work back to the front door. This gift shop will get it's yellow walls painted another color and new floor finish and will become the Intro Gallery; we'll get to the intro Gallery as we work back to the front door. This gift shop will moved to the Intro Gallery and the Intro Gallery will reside here along with a kids table for kids.

As we move back from the Gift Shop we are in the small display room currently featuring "Women of the Southwest" with the doorway into the Gift Shop on the left. This will become the Way Finder room that explains how to navigate around the building like where the door on the right leads and whats up the stairway.

Image
Walking backward we see the stairway to the send floor displays and to its right where we just came from and to the right a doorway into a large display room/kids room and to the right, barely seen, the doorway into the original Allman Family Parlor.

Entering the first door on the right, the Parlor, we look into the large display room and current kids room that the second door leads into. The Parlor will remain the parlor, the Kids Table shown in the bottom center will moved into the used-to-be Gift Shop and the large room used for expanded displays.

As we enter the front door of the Museum we see to the left a Greeter and just her her left the doorway into the current Intro Gallery that will become the Gift Shop.

The current Intro Gallery has local art hanging and a couple of display cases and a rug that will be removed and the hardwood floor refurbished. The Art will be hung in the current Gift Shop that will become the Intro Gallery/Kids Room.

Clear as mud? Pay a visit after January and check out the new director's vision of presenting Silver City and SW New Mexico History and check back often as the vision expands.
