This is an interesting photo beyond our own Tim Baker from Mimbres who has been with the bridge crew from the beginning but first: During at least the past couple of days the DOT and IHC (main contractor) did another serious reevaluation and ended up abandoning the opening of 2 lanes, first it was the east side then the west side, and "just go for the full opening sometime not before mid January".

Just above and behind Tim is the concrete wall that is end of the bridge, not the abutment where the bridge meets the hillside which is maybe 20 feet back, the generator in the upper right sits on the abutment, Between this concrete wall and the abutment is the south expansion joint composed a 2 to 3 inch wall of rubber then a wall of steel about the same thickness than the "Flow Fill" (course sand and portland cement) which was then all covered with layer of rebar and concrete as covered in a previous article. But the guys in shorts and tee shits?

Notice the tent with a blue roof and a propane tank next to it that runs a heater inside the tent; this tent straddles the barrier wall cover in blankets. Inside of the tent are 2 men stuccoing (mortaring) the barrier wall, it's hot and humid and they are in shorts and tee shirts and they have another 500+ feet wall to go. A certain amount of drying mush occur before the tent can moved and that area covered with blankets.

The north approach to the bridge; work continued on regrading the sub-base thanks to the bridge crew loaning blankets to SW Transit to cover the dirt to prevent freezing so work could continue Tuesday morning, also covered in Mondays article.
