Late Wednesday afternoon the bridge got its first graffiti tag, here is what happened, then a progress update and the new opening date. After the north half of the southbound lanes got its concrete surface the various crews left and a couple of hours later, after the concrete set enough to be walked on, the bridge crew returned to cover the concrete with plastic and blankets and found "fuck you" and other nasties spray painted on the surface. Fortunately the concrete was still fresh enough that the tags were removed with a good buffing. Photos were taken by the Bridge Crew Supervisor and will be available next week if I decide to publish them.

In the photo above starting on the right, the southbound lanes, location of the tags, covered with burlap, plastic and blankets, then the northbound lanes dry enough to drive a forklift on the surface. Two workers are installing concrete forms for the barrier wall between roadway and sidewalk. By Friday afternoon not only had the second half of the southbound lanes and sidewalk been finished also about 200 feet of the barrier wall had received its concrete.

The December target for opening the northbound lanes and sidewalk had been the 18th and is now slated for December 21. The original December 18th date was for all lanes opening but a few weeks ago that was scaled back to half the bridge opening, the northbound lanes with one lane going each direction. By the 21st the concrete barrier wall will have to be finished, the 3 street lights installed, the pedestrian fences put up and the ends of the bridge final concrete then the roadway leading to and from the bridge will have to be finished and paved, 300 feet from the north end and 200 ft from the south end.
