Barring any unforeseen glitch, next week the concrete roadway will be placed. Tuesday the 2 north bound lanes and adjacent sidewalk go in starting at 3am and ending at 3 pm. and Wednesday the southbound lanes and adjacent sidewalk will go be placed. Each day 2 pumper trucks will pump 800 cubic yards of concrete and the trolly shown above, with some extra attachments will spread it to a thickness of 8.5 inches. Vibrators will move along the 548 foot long surface to remove air bubbles.

The spreader trolly will be removed and a "catwalk" will be placed on the tracks and workers on the "catwalk" will smooth and finish the surface and lay a straight edge to ensure the surface variation is within 3/16 of an inch tolerance. Nighttime temperatures are too cold so measures will be taken as outlined below.

Note in the lower part of the photo there is a line of rebar perpendicular to the road surface; this is some of the rebar that will be imbedded in the barrier wall between the traffic lanes and the sidewalks on both sides of the bridge. These barriers will be finished later after the road surface concrete curers.

Another view of the spreader trolly and one of the tracks can be seen as a black line near the center of the bridge.

The "catwalk" is a low platform so that the surface can be finished (troweling, sweeping etc) and tested for surface variations. Note the odd shape at the left end, this is so the the barrier wall rebar can as under because the second track is on the sidewalk side of the barrier wall

The concrete cannot be allowed to cool below 45 degrees for 3 days and nighttime temperature are expected to be around 30 degrees. The silvery things on the right side of the bridge are propane heaters, there are 15 of them and another 15 are being hung under the left, south bound lanes. These will be fed by five 250 gallon propane tanks. To contain the heat an upside down plastic tent, row cover, will be installed and topside will be: on the finished surface will be coated with a semi-permeable wax coating than a layer of burlap that will be kept wet with soaker hoses that are then covered by plastic sheeting and those layers are covered by 2 layers of thick concrete/stucco blankets.
